Suni Lee has had one of the best seasons of any gymnast. She was named the WCGA Regional Gymnast of the Year (Region 4), the Women’s College Gymnastics Association announced Thursday.
It is the latest in a long list of honors for the freshman. She was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and garnered four All-America honors. She made the first team in the all-around, bars, and beam and made the second-team on floor. She also made the All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman teams.
“Suni has had a fantastic season so far and this award is recognition for what she has done in our region,” head coach Jeff Graba said in a release. “I’m excited for her and it not only is a huge honor for her, but also for our program. However, in the end, no award will be able to quantify how much she has brought to this program.”

She is Auburn’s first SEC champion since 1994 when she won the conference bars title with a perfect 10. Overall, she has recorded five 10s this season, two on bars and three on beam. She is the first Auburn gymnast to score a 10 since 2004 and the only one to do so in multiple events.
She and the rest of the Tigers will return to action on April 14 in the Elite Eight in Fort Worth, Texas. They will face Florida, Michigan and Missouri, with the top two teams advancing to the Final Four two days later.
