Suni Lee earns silver on beam, finishes fourth overall at US Gymnastics Championships

The former Auburn gymnast is in a great position to earn a bid to the Paris games after a strong showing at the US Gymnastics Championship finals.

Former Auburn gymnast [autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] continues to bounce back from a kidney ailment she sustained last year by competing strongly in the US Gymnastics Championships.

Lee followed up Friday’s performance, where she ended the all-around event with a 55.570, by earning a fourth-place finish in the championship finals with an overall score of 110.65, finishing behind Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, and gold medal winner Simone Biles.

Lee had a successful outing on bars and beam in the final. She earned a fourth-place finish on bars with a 28.8 and earned a silver medal on beam with a 29.1, half of a point behind Biles for the top spot in the event.

After the event, Lee says that she is finding ways to build confidence as she continues to prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“I feel like I’ll never really think that I’m going to be fully ready. Obviously, I’m my hardest critic,” Lee said in an interview with USA TODAY’s Tom Schad. “But I think I’m definitely on the right track. I feel like a couple more weeks under my belt and I’ll be right where I want to be.”

Lee will get another chance to perform in front of the Olympic selection committee at the end of this month by competing in the US Olympic Trials June 27-30 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
