The “greatest basketball player of all time” conversation is on that will never go away no matter how many want to see it come to an end.

Is it LeBron James? Is it Michael Jordan? Sometimes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gets brought up in the conversation. (The answer is MJ, by the way.)

But the GOAT conversation isn’t limited to basketball. It’s often brought up in the football world, specifically at the quarterback position. Then there’s the matter of the other type of football — otherwise known as soccer.

Pele is often regarded as the best to ever play the sport, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi altered the debate as the two most prominent names from the modern game. Still, the nod typically goes to Pele.

Unless, of course, you’re Steve Nash.

The Brooklyn Nets head coach — who’s an avid soccer fan — revealed where he stands in the soccer GOAT conversation, and why, during the Nets’ town hall on Tuesday:

“I think Messi is the greatest player of all time. I think he’s just leaps and bounds better than the rest. It’s been incredible — I feel privileged to be able to live through his era and watch him play as the game’s evolved. The athletes have evolved, the schemes have evolved and he’s still as prolific or more prolific than anyone we’ve ever seen.”
