Now that the Nets have their new head coach in Steve Nash, Caris LeVert has become an even great focal point for anyone discussing Brooklyn’s future.
As Nets general manager Sean Marks works to refine the roster, some, like for Brooklyn big man Kevin Garnett, think LeVert should be dealt. Spencer Dinwiddie believes the young wing is Brooklyn’s third star.
Kevin Durant thinks LeVert could be the Nets’ No. 3, though he may not necessarily define him as the final piece of a Big 3 — which seems to be where Nash falls on the subject, too.
“I’ve known Caris for a few years and always admired his game. He’s a great piece for us,” Nash said on WFAN’s Joe & Evan on Friday. “The NBA seems to be increasingly about who can contain the ball, and vice versa, who can penetrate and create high-value shots. Caris is a guy who can attack and make the first domino fall. It’s about making these pieces fit together, and a lot is left to be determined, but Caris is versatile — he can start, he can maybe fit that [Manu] Ginobili role as a closer — but it’s exciting to have a player of his caliber, another player who loves the game.”
If LeVert comes off the bench, does that mean Dinwiddie starts? Or would they come off the bench together as another duo that packs a punch?
Every answer seems to lead to more questions with the Nets — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing right now.
