Sunday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder was a rough one for the Brooklyn Nets. No loss is easy, especially in double-digit fashion like Sunday’s 129-116 finish, but it’s even worse because Brooklyn took control of the game in the early going. The Nets just let things slip away and never managed to punch back after the Thunder recovered from some early blows and eventually overwhelmed Brooklyn at Barclays Center.
“I thought the second quarter was turnovers — unforced turnovers, kicking the ball all over the gym up 15. Lack of focus, gets them right back in the game,” Steve Nash said on a Zoom called with reporters following the loss. “Third quarter — I mean, 66 points in the paint tonight, 72 points in the second half. It’s just pride. No matter what defense you’re in, you gotta sit down and guard someone.
Brooklyn’s head coach also added:
“You can get beat. You can have a hard time guarding someone. But I didn’t sense the pride,” Nash said. “I didn’t sense the competitive fire in the second half. I thought it was a lack of respect. We just got to learn from this and get better.”
