The Brooklyn Nets are set to play their first preseason game on Sunday and the closest things to talking with the media that Kyrie Irving has done are release a statement through a spokesperson about the start of 2020-21 and respond on Instagram to media-related fine from the league.
So when it came time for Steve Nash to address the media on Saturday, Brooklyn’s head coach was asked about Irving’s friction with the media and when he expects the point guard will speak to reporters.
“I haven’t addressed it with him. It’s a good question,” Nash said. “He’s been unbelievable in camp. He’s been playing at an extremely high level. He’s been a leader.
“While he may not be in your guys’ good books, he’s in my good books. So, I am enjoying coaching him. He’s been unbelievable but if he needs my thoughts or wants to discuss it, I’m than happy to discuss it with him. But, I have not had that conversation with him yet.”
Nash was asked again if he has an idea when this odreal will come to an end, as well as if he has any inclination as to why Irving isn’t talking with reporters.
“I don’t,” Brooklyn’s head coach said in response to both queries. “To be honest, I’m trying to learn my position, as well, right now. I’m definitely focusing in on our process here of implementing all of our schemes, sets, scenarios, starting to kind of schedule those things out, hitting the film every day, so I haven’t got into the off-the-court stuff yet. So, I apologize if I can’t give you a better answer.”
