Steve Kerr‘s loyalty toward the Golden State Warriors championship-winning core is admirable and logical. Despite starting the season slowly, it’s clear the veteran head coach has confidence his team can figure everything out; after all, it’s been 18 months since they lifted their most recent championship.
However, Kerr is also aware of the talent at his disposal. He knows there’s a group of younger players waiting for opportunities. As such, Kerr wants everybody to know there is someone further down the pecking order waiting to take their spot. He admitted as much during a recent interview on 97.5 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” show.
“I talked to the team about it,” Kerr said. “We want to give our guys lots of confidence and lots of rope, but we also need to challenge them and make sure they understand there’s always a guy behind them.”
The recent production from younger stars Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski is proof Golden State is ready to usher in a new batch of talent. The pressure is on the veteran core to prove it is still capable of competing for championships.
If not, Kerr may be forced to lean on his younger players moving forward,
