Steve Kerr: Jonathan Kuminga could debut with Warriors on Saturday

Kuminga has made good progress in his recovery from a knee injury and could soon make his debut with the Warriors.

Golden State Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga could debut with the team on Saturday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, head coach Steve Kerr said on Friday.

Kuminga has missed each of the first five games of the regular season after dealing with a strained right patellar tendon. He first suffered the injury in the preseason on Oct. 6 versus the Denver Nuggets and has not played with the team since then.

He was cleared to return to practice on Oct. 23 after recently stepping up his rehab. Kuminga has made steady progress during his recovery and could soon play with the Warriors.

“He is a possibility to go tomorrow,” Kerr said on Friday. “He is playing 3-on-3 right now so we’ll see how he comes out of this day.”

The Warriors will make a decision on his playing status against the Thunder closer to the start of the game. Kerr was unsure if Kuminga would see minutes if he is available to play, and would likely make that determination as the game progresses.

Certainly, missing part of the preseason and the start of the regular season was unfortunate for Kuminga but it appears as though he will soon debut with the team.
