Brooklyn Nets wings Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders as they look to lead Brooklyn to the playoffs and beyond next season. While the Nets’ fanbase is excited to see what the “Twins” can accomplish, a notable figure in the NBA likes what he sees from both players.
According to Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, Team USA head coach Steve Kerr recently talked about what Bridges and Johnson can bring to the team as it looks to win gold in the 2023 FIBA World Cup that begins towards the end of August. Kerr has more experience facing Bridges and Johnson due to both players being members of the Phoenix Suns for the past few seasons before both were traded to Brooklyn this past February as part of a package to bring Kevin Durant to Phoenix.
Bridges and Johnson have been embraced by the fans for their hard work and exciting style of play that leads to numerous highlights on a nightly basis. Now that Johnson has signed a lucrative contract, fans and pundits alike are interested in what the Nets will look like over the next few seasons. Here’s what Kerr had to say about the pair as told by Winfield:
“I already knew what kind of players they were from coaching against them, but they’re so mature: There’s a calming sense from both guys. And, they’re also modern-day basketball players: shoot the three, guard multiple positions, long athletically. They’re huge components to this team.”
In a quote that seems prophetic now, Bridges and Johnson combined for 29 points in Monday’s 117-74 exhibition win over Puerto Rico as part of a five-game showcase to get Team USA ready to compete for the World Cup.
