When the Milwaukee Bucks elected to protest Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic and the rest of the teams still in the Disney bubble for the 2020 NBA Playoffs followed suit, there were some who circled back to Kyrie Irving’s efforts prior to the NBA’s restart.
The Brooklyn Nets point guard was the leading voice among those who did not want to resume the 2020-21 season. Reports indicated he was concerned with the social justice issues that were a the forefront of the United States’ issues amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
While those who criticized Irving haven’t brought up what the point guard said previously, those who supported him before are reminding everyone of Irving’s words.
And what Irving’s done has impressed Stephon Marbury.
The former New Jersey Nets point guard told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy “Kyrie Irving is a G,” but not solely because Brooklyn’s point guard can bring it on the floor.
Marbury appreciates even more what Irving does away from the court:
He’s a real one. He’s a guy that not only can get on the basketball court and perform, but off the court he has an opinion and as a human being he has a feeling which is in tune with what is actually happening with other human beings. So when he speaks and he says something, he doesn’t just speak it and say things just because he’s talking. He’s speaking and talking because he can feel the vibration of what’s actually happening and what’s actually going on in the universe and what’s happening with our people.
