Everyone around the basketball world seems to have an opinion on the Draymond Green-Jordan Poole scuffle from a few days ago.
Some believe it was much ado about nothing, while others think it was a sign of trouble in paradise.
Then there are those who surmise it could merely be the tip of the iceberg, especially as far as Green is concerned.
Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young believes Green is on his way out of the Golden State Warriors and that he wants to join the Lakers. Now ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith has said the same thing.
Via Lakers Daily:
“Smith offered his thoughts (beginning at the 2:01 mark) on “First Take” and explained why he believes that scenario will take place.
“‘I can tell you right now, (Andrew) Wiggins and Poole are a priority,’ Smith said. ‘I can tell you right now that Draymond Green is expecting this to be his last year in Golden State. Now, he wanna be a Laker. He ain’t gonna tell anybody that, but don’t think I don’t know. He’d prefer to be a Laker if he gotta leave Golden State.’
“‘But he looking for a payday. He gonna get $25 million this year. He got a player option for $24 million next year. The Warriors are probably hoping he don’t opt in because they’d have to pay him on top of the cats that they know that they gotta pay in Poole and Wiggins.'”
It seems far-fetched to imagine Green, who has played his whole career with the Warriors, ever wearing the Purple and Gold, especially given the rivalry his team has had with LeBron James over the years.
But if Green desperately wants to make it happen, and if he’d be willing to come off the bench for L.A., perhaps Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka could make it happen, one way or another.
