Free agency hit the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers hard. Ray-Ray McCloud, James Washington and JuJu Smith-Schuster all left for other teams, leaving the Steelers with only two viable options left on the roster.

To combat this, the Steelers drafted not one but two wide receivers in the 2022 NFL draft. First, the team selected former Georgia star George Pickens in the second round. They then followed it up by drafting speedster Calvin Austin III out of Memphis in the fourth round.

This double-dip improved the unit enough that Pro Football Focus recognized the Steelers wide receivers as one of the most improved units in the NFL after the draft.

With a change at quarterback on the horizon, the front office is smart to surround whoever starts with as many weapons as possble.
