If Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert takes the field on Sunday in the Pittsburgh Steelers home opener, he’ll be restricted by an ankle injury.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Herbert was “extremely limited” in practice on Thursday after getting banged up in the Chargers Week 2 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He’s listed as questionable heading into Pittsburgh.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has implemented a ground-heavy attack in L.A., highlighting the prowess of the NFL’s rushing leader, J.K. Dobbins. The change in the offensive scheme has lessened the need for Herbert to command the spotlight, so he might not be tasked with much in Week 3 anyway.
Herbert and Steelers quarterback Justin Fields are neck-and-neck with 274 to 273 passing yards, respectively, but Herbert has found the end zone three times to Fields’ one.
