The Pittsburgh Steelers granted pass rusher Melvin Ingram his wish and traded him ahead of the 2021 NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.
The Steelers (4-3) sent Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs (4-4). In the deal, Pittsburgh received a sixth-round pick from Kansas City, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Per Steelers Wire, Ingram had grown increasingly unhappy with his role in Pittsburgh in recent weeks. It was previously reported that the two sides agreed to move him on.
Ingram was disgruntled because his snap counts had been decreasing. Coming off the edge, Ingram was behind All-Pro TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith.
In Week 5, Ingram played in 60 percent of snaps on the Steelers defense. In Week 6, that number dropped to 26 percent.
The 32-year-old was signed later in the offseason, in July, by the Steelers. That came after Ingram spent the first nine years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In six appearances this season including only one start, Ingram had one sack, 10 tackles, including two for loss. He also forced one fumble.
In joining the Chiefs, Ingram joins a Kansas City team with 11 total sacks this season.
Only the Jacksonville Jaguars have less (10).
