Most NFL teams script their opening drives and practice those plays to maximize that first possession. We are pretty sure the Pittsburgh Steeles do this as well but it almost never works. When we talk about stats, we often overreact and partake in hyperbole but in this case, it might actually be worse than it sounds.
According to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, according to Elias Sports, the Steelers have gone 19 straight games without scoring a touchdown on their opening draft. Also, according to Elias, the only team worse has been the Seattle Seahawks who have gone 21 games without an opening-drive touchdown.
The Steelers have gone 19 games without scoring a TD on the opening possession. It’s the second longest active streak in the league behind Seattle (21), per @EliasSports https://t.co/Y85tOdTYWN

When the Steelers hired new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was hired, one of the goals was to undo the damage done by former OC Matt Canada. However, it’s simply been more of the same when it comes to slow starts.
