Steelers signing TE Eric Ebron to a 2-year contract

Pittsburgh adds another weapon for Ben Roethlisberger.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another weapon to an offense that struggled a great deal in 2019. According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are signing free agent Eric Ebron to a two-year contract.

Ebron has been a steady performer during his time with the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts. In 2018, when he became a featured weapon in the offense – particularly in the red zone – he shined. Ebron finished the season with 66 receptions and 13 of those went for touchdowns.

The Steelers restructured the contract of Vance McDonald to free up some cap space but this is still a big investment in a position the offense hasn’t utilized much in recent years. It also brings into question if the Steelers will try to re-sign Nick Vannett with Zach Gentry in the fold.
