The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that they have signed wide receiver Tyler Simmons to a one-year contract.

Simmons participated in the University of Georgia pro day as a former student-athlete and impressed enough that general manager Kevin Colbert offered him a contract on the spot.

Last season, Simmons was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent and spent the season on their practice squad. In studying Simmons’ tape, he was probably better than a UDFA but the lack of a pro day last year hurt his ability to get exposure to NFL teams.

Simmons has great size and plays with surprising agility and deep speed for a player his height. With JuJu Smith-Schuster returning, Simmons is probably a fringe player to make the final 53-man roster.
