On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had signed outside linebacker John Simon to a reserve/futures contract. This was the second-biggest piece of Steelers news of the day.

The Steelers added Simon late in the 2021 season to bolster depth at outside linebacker. Simon appeared in one game, a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Simon played his college ball at Ohio State and was originally a fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. Simon has 21 career sacks, and a season-high of five back in 2015 when he was with the Houston Texans and started eight games.

Simon is headed into his 10th NFL season and has 52 career starts. With T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith entrenched as the starters, it will be Simon, along with a varying cast of characters vying for opportunities as reserves.
