According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick had an appendectomy on Saturday and will miss multiple weeks in recovery.

Fitzpatrick was ruled out on Saturday from this week’s game against the New Orleans Saints and it sounds like he will now miss several games. Pittsburgh will utilize some combination of Tre Norwood and Damontae Kazee to replace Fitzpatrick in the lineup.

It was looking like the Steelers defense was poised to get back on track with the return of outside linebacker T.J. Watt this week but the defense must now contend with the loss of the team’s best defensive back.
