Despite the ranking, Minkah Fitzpatrick is one of the best defensive players in the NFL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are fortunate to have one of the best all-around safeties in the NFL on the team in Minkah Fitzpatrick. But is he the best? Not according to Pro Football Focus and now not according to Touchdown Wire. Pro Football Focus had Fitzpatrick at No. 5 on their list and now TD Wire puts Fitzpatrick at No. 4.

Here are how the numbers worked out for Fitzpatrick last season:

Fitzpatrick was even stingier in 2020, playing 852 snaps at free safety and allowing nine catches on 20 targets for 130 yards, 22 yards after the catch, two touchdowns, four interceptions, seven pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 60.4.

You would think this sort of production would warrant better placement but the reality is the current crop of elite safeties in the NFL is large and very talented. The names ahead of Fitzpatrick, Darnell Savage, Tyrann Mathieu and Justin Simmons are all places on par with Fitzpatrick. As Steelers fans, we all hold Fitzpatrick higher than the rest but honestly, you could interchanges these guys — perhaps with the exception of Simmons — and no one would complain.
