The latest rumor from Pro Football Talk is sure to get Steeler Nation all worked up. According to them, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the fold to trade for Green bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and even have an offer on the table.

The Steelers are currently formulating a plan to replace Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback but it’s hard to say if Rodgers really is part of that plan. The Steelers have spent a great deal of time scouting potential rookie quarterbacks but this wouldn’t preclude them from making a huge trade for Rodgers.

Except for the fact that any more for Rodgers would certainly cost multiple first-round picks so any quarterback Pittsburgh drafted would be outside of the first round.

It’s important to keep in mind if you think Rodgers wouldn’t make the Steelers a contender, consider this. Roethlisberger as a shell of himself and a patchwork offensive line still went 9-7-1 and made the playoffs in a highly competitive AFC. You have to assume the Steelers offensive line will be improved so the upgrade of Rodgers over Roethlisberger would be enough to make Pittsburgh a contender.
