Steelers release LB Anthony Chickillo

The first of the Steelers salary cap cuts was announced.

In the first of what will be several moves to save money, the Pittsburgh Steelers have released linebacker Anthony Chickillo. This is according to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter.

Releasing Chickillo frees up $5 million in cap space. There was really no point in keeping Chickillo at his current cap number considering he had almost no impact on defense. Chickillo is a solid special-teams player and is one of those guys who could sit on the market and eventually find their way back to Pittsburgh on a smaller contract.
