It might not have looked exactly like everyone thought but Sunday was the breakout game Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris had been waiting for. On a day when almost nothing went right, Harris as a receiving threat went very right.
For the game, Harris only had 40 rushing yards on 14 carries. And half of those yards came on a single carry. But quarterback Ben Roethlisberger found his new favorite safety valve in the passing game in the rookie running back.
Harris finished with 14 receptions for 102 yards to lead the team in both categories. According to harris, this was not part of the plan. After the game, Harris spoke to the media and said the play wasn’t to get him the football more as a receiver and his big game was a product of a lot of check downs by Big Ben.
In 2017, RB Le’Veon Bell caught 85 passes for the season. Through three games, Harris has 20 receptions and Pittsburgh might have found a secret weapon to get production out of their talented rookie without the problems associated with running the ball right now.
