The recent spike in COVID-19 among football players prompted the NFLPA to request that athletes not engage in players-only workouts. Despite the request, Steelers running James Conner joined his former backfield mate, Le’Veon Bell, for some foot drill workouts in Miami on Monday.
After contract extension talks between Bell and the Steelers broke down in 2019 and he was signed by the Jets in free agency, Conner made it a point to not speak negatively about his former teammate. In fact, their friendship has outlasted their one season together in Pittsburgh.
“Really nothing’s changed. Still the homie, keep in touch every once in a while, not every day, you know, not my best friend but still a good friend,” Conner said in a December interview with Jacob Klinger of PennLive.
Last year, Bell shared this private text between the two of them.
I usually don’t post private conversations…but this txt just hit me so differently…I love youu to death bro 🖤🙌🏾 @JamesConner_ #AllPositiveVibes pic.twitter.com/Bzwp9g5LO3
