Steelers place LT Troy Fautanu on injured reserve

Troy Fautanu isn’t expected to play again in 2024.

Former Washington Huskies star Troy Fautanu will, in all likelihood, not play again in his rookie season. On Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that the No. 20 overall pick would miss an indefinite period, and late on Saturday night, the team placed him on injured reserve.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the injury is “significant” and that Mike Tomlin’s coaching staff isn’t expecting him to play again this season.

“He injured his knee in practice on Friday,” Dulac said on the Steelers Audio Network. “It was a non-contact injury. He was engaged with another player and injured his knee.”

While Dulac didn’t provide many details, including which knee was hurt, it’s still not a great sign for Fautanu was still recovering from a sprained MCL he suffered in Pittsburgh’s first preseason game. 2023 first round pick Broderick Jones will take his place as the organization will presumably turn its attention to making sure Fautanu is healthy to start the 2025 season.
