Three games into the Matt Canada era as Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator and things are less than ideal. Pittsburgh is currently last in rushing yards, No. 13 in passing yards, No. 26 in overall yards and No. 28 in points.
However, all that ineptitude isn’t enough to shake Canada. When he spoke to the media he said they have no plans to try to change things up.
“We’re gonna stick with what we’re doing,” Canada said. ” “Obviously, that’s not the answer and that’s not the sexy answer but we believe we’re on the right track. We’ve gotta get some cohesion up front. We’re working to get that, and that’s not an excuse.”
When Canada says they need cohesion up front, this is coach speak for the offensive line stinks. All the schematic stuff in the world isn’t going to matter until those five guys up front win more than they lose.
This week’s test for the Steelers is the Green Bay Packers. In the past, it was easy to lay the blame for Pittsburgh’s problems on offense on former offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. At this point, it is far less about the system or playcalling and all execution.
