Steelers OC Arthur Smith on offensive mistakes: ‘We gotta get out of our own way’

The Steelers offense has been a comedy of errors through two preseason games.

The preseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been an ugly affair riddled with mistakes. The two preseason game performances have been in stark contrast to how well the offense has practiced during training camp.

Pittsburgh’s new offense was supposed to be a much-improved group. The addition of an entirely new quarterback group, two top draft picks on the offensive line and new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith are the big new pieces on that side of the football.

Smith addressed the media on Tuesday and he admitted things are not going according to plan for the Steelers offense and what we are seeing in games is not lining up with practice and Smith looks at it more as mistakes by the players than any issues with the scheme.

While the Smith offense hasn’t wowed us, we tend to agree that the biggest problems the Steelers have had resulted from human error. The question then turns to how much the coaches are responsible for players who play error-filled, undisciplined football.
