Even before news broke of the tragic death of Pittsburgh Steelers legend Franco Harris, this week’s game was monumental. Not only are there still postseason implications as well as Mike Tomlin’s streak of non-losing seasons, but this game also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.
These are all facts not lost on linebacker T.J. Watt. And Watt also understands how much more this game means to the team, the fanbase and the city after Harris’ passing. He talked about it on Friday.
“This was a huge game before the news of Franco’s passing even hit, now it’s ramped up more,” Watt said. “I think we’re going to see the impact that he had on people when the fans show up and show the appreciation for all that he’s done for Steeler Nation.”
We said earlier in the week we hope the magnitude of everything that happened this week and everything on the line isn’t too much for an inconsistent team like this. The hope is this group steps up and plays big and uses all that energy to play over their heads.
Let us know in the comments if you think everything surrounding this game will be a positive or a negative for Pittsburgh this week.
