Steelers land elite inside linebacker in new 2024 mock draft

Pittsburgh tries to replace Ryan Shazier once again in this new mock draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have tried multiple times to replace inside linebacker Ryan Shazier with no success. It hasn’t mattered if it was the draft or free agency, the shadow of No. 50 has been just too big for any player to duplicate.

But perhaps 2024 will be different. The Draft Network put out a new one-round mock draft and they have the Steelers selecting Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Here’s what they had to say about the pick:

The Steelers overhauled this linebacker room in the offseason by bringing in veteran players, but I believe they need to continue to work to find long-term solutions. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is a true MIKE lInebacker who plays physical and appears to have that Steelers grit and toughness to his play style.

Cliche aside, this pick is a little puzzling. Mainly because I’m not at all convinced Trotter is the best draft prospect among inside linebackers on his own team. With the No. 28 overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys select fellow Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter and a strong case could be made he would be a much better fit for the Steelers.
