When it comes to the NFL draft, teams understand there is a smaller and smaller window for prospects to prove they can perform in the league. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 2020 draft class is going to be under tremendous pressure to perform early because it’s highly likely these players will be replacing established veterans.
Our friends over at Draft Wire put out a new four-round mock draft and so you know we had to delve into the Steelers two picks.
Second round
Pittsburgh Steelers | Curtis Weaver | EDGE | Boise State
Weaver is a popular prospect and you should expect to hear more as it pertains to the Steelers. If Pittsburgh cannot find a way to get Bud Dupree back under contract, adding another edge rusher will be the team’s top draft priority. Weaver has a lot of NFL traits including a good first step and a high motor.
Fourth round
Pittsburgh Steelers | Jacob Breeland | TE | Oregon
Pittsburgh will end up with a third-round pick as a compensatory choice when it’s all said and done but for now, we look ahead to the fourth round. Breeland had his 2019 season cut short by injury but looked to be on his way to a career-best season. There’s nothing that stands out about Breeland as a receiver or a blocker which honestly fits right in with how Pittsburgh seems to select their tight ends.
