When the 2021 NFL draft rolls around, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have some difficult decisions to make. Free agency could potentially force this team into a full-blown rebuild. Depending on how far the Steelers commit to the future, the first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft could go a number of directions.
Our friends over at Touchdown Wire put out their first 2021 mock draft of the season and for the Steelers, they went with Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood. Here’s what they had to say about the pick.
In Alex Leatherwood Pittsburgh gets a tackle who did not allow a sack two seasons ago in the SEC, and has a ton of experience under his belt. Many consider him to be a potential guard in the NFL, but either way his experience and strength pairs well with what the Steelers do on offense and in the running game.
Leatherwood has every trait the Steelers would look for and is going to be an elite blindside defender for a decade. But who is he defending? In this scenario, the name that is going to raise eyebrows for Steelers fans is Florida quarterback Kyle Trask. There would be a significant uproar among Steeler Nation if Pittsburgh picked any offensive tackle over Trask.
The same can be said for Alabama running back Najee Harris. He’s quickly become a favorite among Steelers fans and give them warm, fuzzy feelings of backs like Jerome Bettis.
But I want to pass it off to Steeler Nation. If the Steelers are on the clock and Leatherwood, Trask and Harris are on the board, who should they take?
