When the crowd arrives at Latrobe Memorial Stadium for the Pittsburgh Steelers annual Friday Night Lights, they will not have their leader. According to beat writer Dale Lolley, head coach Mike Tomlin will not be attending the night practice.
Tomlin headed to Canton on Friday. He is attending the Hall of Fame Gold Jacket dinner with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber.
From 2001-2005, Tomlin was the defensive backs coach for the Buccaneers. Barber was the Bucs starting cornerback and leader of the Tampa secondary and the two became very close during that time.
There’s been no word as to who will run practice in Tomlin’s absence. We expect it to be a shared load between offensive coordinator Matt Canada and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.
