I understand the position Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is in. In going back over last week’s debacle, there really wasn’t any area to speak highly of and it basically came down to assigning blame across the board. The only real discussion would have to do with where the shares of the blame go.
But Tomlin summed the whole thing up in just six simple words as only Tomlin can.
“It just wasn’t our day, obviously.”
Obviously.
After a loss like this, reflection has to focus on two areas. First is how can a team of professionals be so unprepared in all phases? It literally felt like defensive tackle Cam Heyward was the only guy who showed up ready to play and understood the gravity of the moment.
Second, and maybe more importantly, how does Tomlin make sure it doesn’t happen again? The Steelers need to find a way to get past the Cleveland Browns this week despite all these concerns. The game is at home and basically with the season on the line. If this isn’t enough to get the team on the same page, nothing will.
