With the firings of former Houston Texans head coach David Culley and former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stands as the only Black head coach in the NFL.
The Rooney Rule, which sets the guidelines for ethnic-minority hiring practices in the NFL was named after former Steelers owner Dan Rooney who was chairman of the NFL diversity committee when it was first implemented in 2003. The Steelers hired Tomlin before the 2007 season.
