The NFL is entering unknown territory with the COVID-19 pandemic and trying to get their offseason workouts rolling. With each state and in some cases each county being given leeway in how quickly and completely they open back up non-essential industry, the NFL which operates all over the country are in a tough spot.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the biggest concern with all this when he spoke to the media on Saturday. The idea of competitive fairness came up in a discussion about when teams will be allowed to open up team facilities.
Simply put, Tomlin believes every NFL team’s facilities should open up on the same day. Which is absolutely fair. But it could mean some teams in states that open up completely will be forced to wait until the last state with an NFL team chooses to open back up fully.
This would certainly assure no team gets a jumpstart on their camps. Teams in states that open sooner might oppose the move but it is definitely something the league will need to address over the next several weeks.
