Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has followed an unwavering philosophy in how he handles his star players in the NFL preseason. This is particularly true of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

After the Steelers’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, Tomlin discussed his plans for Roethlisberger next week against the Detroit Lions.

As per his typical rotation, Roethlisberger will play against Detroit, which is Pittsburgh’s third game of the exhibition schedule. It won’t be much — probably just a handful of drives — but Pittsburgh will get a look at Big Ben with what should be the full first-team offense.
