Steelers HC Mike Tomlin isn’t taking the bait about the starting QB position

Mike Tomlin says the team is preparing as if Justin Fields will start versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and was immediately asked about the starting quarterback position. But it was clear that Tomlin was not in the mood to feed the media with anything related to what might or might not happen as the week progresses.

Tomlin said as of now, the team is preparing to have Justin Fields as the team’s starting quarterback this week at home against the Denver Broncos. He noted that Russell Wilson is still limited but was not going to dig into any specifics of the team’s plan based on Wilson’s progression. In fact he sounded a little annoyed by the insinuation that Tomlin was somehow obligated to offer up some sort of hypothetical strategy.

“Hypotheticals is a waste of our time,” Tomlin said, just further reinforcing the point that he is not planning for anything further than tomorrow’s practice and is willing to make whatever changes are necessary.
