At the close of Mike Tomlin’s weekly press conference, TribLive’s Tim Benz asked Tomlin the question reporters before didn’t have the guts to spit out.
To which Tomlin bluntly said: “There’s not a booster with a big enough blank check.”
On Monday’s “The Dan Patrick Show,” USC quarterback legend Carson Palmer threw Mike Tomlin’s name into the ring as a potential candidate for the vacant head coaching job.
Benz asked how a few folks — including former Steelers pro personnel director Doug Whaley — might think Tomlin had an interest in coaching at the college level.
“I don’t have time for that speculation. That’s a joke to me. I’ve got one of the best jobs in all of professional sports,” Tomlin told the Steelers media. “That’ll be the last time that I address it and not only today but moving forward. Never say never, but never.”
“Anybody else have any questions about any college jobs? … Anybody asking Sean Payton about that? Anybody asking Andy Reid about stuff like that?”
Clay Helton was relieved of his duties as head coach of the USC Trojans in September.
