As day one of the 2023 NFL draft ended, all the talk was about what the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to do with the top pick on the second day. With one less pick in the first round, the Steelers first of two second-round picks was a de facto first as the No. 32 overall.
The Steelers ended up using that pick on former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. but they could have made a move. According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers had four teams looking to move up.
But no offer was good enough for the Steelers to risk missing out on Porter. It’s safe to assume at least some of those trades were in an attempt to go up for former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis but the Steelers asking price had to be set high.
During the draft, a video of Porter and his dad, Joey Porter Sr. showed up with the former Steeler legend giving his son a pep talk about being passed over but it had to make Porter feel pretty good to go to his local team and to know the Steelers could have traded down and made a haul and instead stayed put to be sure they go their guy.
