According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Pittsburgh Steelers are finalizing the details to make current quarterbacks coach Matt Canada the team’s new offensive coordinator. Canada has been considered the frontrunner from the beginning.
The Steelers hired Canada last season away from the University of Maryland to be the team’s quarterbacks coach. We really didn’t see much of his influence on the offense but if he ends up the OC, look for some big changes coming.
Pittsburgh chose not to renew the contract of previous offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. Fichtner did a good job as the team’s quarterbacks coach and had built a very solid relationship with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. But it didn’t take long to realize he was in way over his head trying to run an NFL offense.
