Steelers clinch playoff spot despite loss

Pittsburgh lost but still backed into the playoffs on Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers needed to beat the Philadelphia Eagles to clinch a spot in the playoffs. But that didn’t happen as the Steelers fell to the Eagles, 27-13 to fall to 10-4. However, there was a backup plan and fortunately for the Steelers, it happened.

Pittsburgh was able to secure a playoff spot thanks to the Denver Broncos beating the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans beating the Miami Dolphins. Certainly not the cleanest way to make the playoffs but considering the Steelers have clinched a spot with three weeks left in the season, a remarkable feat.

The loss, combined with a win by the Baltimore Ravens, narrowed the gap between the Steelers and Ravens in the race for the AFC North crown. It also makes next Saturday’s showdown between Baltimore and Pittsburgh a de facto division championship game.
