After Thursday night’s preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. talked to the media about his role in the defense.
The first question asked of Porter is if he thinks he will be in the starting lineup in Week One. Porter was honest when he noted that he has no idea. Porter has been slowly working his way into starter reps during training camp and the preseason.
Porter missed the first preseason game as a precaution with an injury. Porter’s NFL debut was highlighted by his first NFL interception. Thursday against the Falcons, Porter was much quieter.
With the way the Steelers are going to move their cornerbacks around, Porter might not be listed as a starter, but he will play plenty. Pittsburgh has been working with veteran Patrick Peterson as an inside cornerback against certain matchups and that could be Porter’s perfect chance to come in to work on the boundary along with Levi Wallace.
