Steelers announce the release of LB Jamir Jones

The Steelers could realistically bring Jones back at some point.

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had released linebacker Jamir Jones. Jones was originally signed by the Steelers in 2021 before going to the Los Angeles Rams for part of that season as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars waived Jones in August of 2022 and the Steelers claimed him off waivers.

The Steelers signed Jones to a new one-year contract in February of 2023. Jones was the team’s No. 3 outside linebacker in 2022 for much of the season.

This move could be a sign that Pittsburgh is planning to make a move for free-agent linebacker Bud Dupree. Dupree spent most of his career with the Steelers before a two-year stint with the Tennessee Titans.
