Steelers announce cancellations and changes to business due to coronavirus

The Steelers are temporarily closing up shop.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were busy on Monday between placing the franchise tag on Bud Dupree as well as releasing multiple players. But the reason they were so busy is they plan to pump the breaks on most activities for the next couple of weeks in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Communications director Burt Lauten released the following statement.

In order to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will temporarily adjust our normal daily business operations effective as of close of business today until further notice. All business travel has been suspended, and except for essential crews, our staffs will work remotely.

All public events have been cancelled at both the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex and Heinz Field. The Steelers pro shops have closed for the next two weeks.

We will continue to be in contact with our partners at UPMC as well as local health officials to gather information. Our primary focus is to ensure the safety and health of our employees and families, and the communities around the Pittsburgh area.
