Steelers add veteran S Eric Rowe to practice squad

The Steelers get some help at defensive back.

According to Pittsburgh Steelers beat reporter Chris Adamski, veteran safety Eric Rowe is signed and on the team. Adamski reported on Monday that Rowe was in the Steelers locker room and had his own locker.

The addition of Rowe is based on the continued problems the Steelers are having with safeties and injuries. Last week the Steelers started Triston Thompson and Damontae Kazee at safety after Keanu Neal went on IR and Minkah Fitzpatrick remained sidelined. Thompson also suffered an injury in Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns, making a veteran like Rowe even more important.

Rowe started six games for the Miami Dolphins last season and has 56 career starts in eight seasons. Last season Rowe had 56 tackles, two forced fumbles and two sacks.
