When you think about a player making a comeback, you typically think of it in terms of an injury. But for the Pittsburgh Steelers, there was no player who made a bigger comeback from a miserable 2018 season like kicker Chris Boswell did.
In 2018, Boswell hit on only 65 percent of his field-goal tries. This was in comparison to hitting more than 90 percent of his kicks in two of his first three seasons. Boswell went from being the team’s most reliable scoring option to a complete liability.
But after going on IR at the end of last season, Boswell got right again. There was speculation he played through an injury but this was nothing Boswell or the team ever admitted to.
Boswell also hit all 28 of his extra-point tries in 2019. This is in comparison to missing five of 48 attempts in 2018. Those numbers alone illustrate just how bad the Steelers offense was this season but that’s a topic for another day.
If Boswell isn’t the best candidate for this award, who do you give it to?
