There’s been plenty of grumblings about Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his struggles with deep passes.
But a tweet from The Athletic‘s Mark Kaboly looks to put those grumblings to rest.
A lot has been made of Ben Roethlisberger struggling with the deep throw. So, let's look at the stats in terms of completions/attempts
Patrick Mahomes — 17 of 49
Russell Wilson — 18 of 44
Roethlisberger — 13 of 44— Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) November 16, 2020
Roethlisberger is 13 of 44 on passes of 20+ air yards. There were a few that were catchable, but receivers dropped them. But the Steelers offense is not designed on deep throws; instead, it’s about Big Ben getting the ball out quickly and, thus, shorter passes.
Ben is developing chemistry with his “new” guys and it’s becoming more apparent with each week. It’s pretty impressive that, coming off major elbow surgery last season, he’s only five behind Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson and Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.
