Star Tribune Vikings reporter projects that Everson Griffen will explore other options

Ben Goessling, a Vikings reporter for the Star Tribune, projects that Griffen will at least explore his other options to see if there’s a better deal for him.

When Everson Griffen voided his contract with the team, many people thought that he would re-sign with the Vikings for less money.

But Ben Goessling, a Vikings reporter for the Star Tribune, thinks Griffen isn’t a certainty to re-sign with Minnesota.

“Griffen will at least explore his options elsewhere and see if there’s a good deal for him in a place like Seattle. If he ultimately returns to the Vikings, it could be because he doesn’t find an offer to his liking on the open market.”

Griffen is coming off a resurgent 2019-20 where he had eight sacks and an interception. He might command a high price, and if that’s the case, he could very well be playing on a different team next season.

However, Griffen is 32 years old and had the kind of production he did when Danielle Hunter was on the opposite side of him. Offensive lines were usually giving Hunter more attention on the edge, which led to Griffen oftentimes receiving a favorable matchup. I think he would have to go to a team where he’s not the best pass rusher, in order to not drop off a bit.
