Riding a two-game losing streak, the San Antonio Spurs walked into TD Garden on Wednesday night to take on the Boston Celtics, who had won two games in a row. The Spurs kept the games relatively close through the first quarter, but beyond that, the Celtics absolutely dominated San Antonio.
Despite their lack of success in the game, Victor Wembanyama still put on an impressive show for a TD Garden crowd that was very excited to have him in town. He earned lots of applause when he was announced pregame and many of his highlight-reel plays were met with oohs and ahhs from the crowd.
After the contest, Wembanyama shared his praise for the Celtics organization.
“It’s the first seed. It’s a legendary franchise,” Wembanyama said via Khari Thompson of Boston.com. “Sometimes it’s hard to realize we play against the best basketball players in the world. This is the top level and we’re not that far away from competing and winning against these teams. It’s a weird feeling as an individual already, as always I feel like it every time I step on the court.”
Wembanyama ended the game against the Celtics with 27 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one block while shooting 10-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
He also had some thoughts on TD Garden.
“The floor is special. It didn’t bother me, but it is special,” Wembanyama said. “It’s just beautiful and the locker room is beautiful. The weight room is way too small, but the locker room is nice.”
Weight room size aside, Wembanyama seemed to enjoy his first experience at TD Garden (despite the loss).
