With their selection of Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the outlook of the San Antonio Spurs organization changed forever. They finished with a 22-60 record this past season, the third-worst in franchise history, but it was all worth it, as they landed a generational talent.

Wembanyama is only 19 years old but already has the skillset to be a star in the NBA. He’s 7-foot-5, a beast on the defensive end, and can handle the ball. He does a little bit of everything on the basketball court, and Spurs fans should be ecstatic to watch him play in their favorite team’s jersey.

But Wembanyama isn’t done developing his game yet. He’s still a teenager and has plenty of room to grow. During a chat with Bleacher Report, Wembanyama was asked about stuff he’s adding to his game. He revealed that he’s been working on the skyhook, a move made famous by Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. (H/t Angelo Guinhawa of Clutch Points)

“I’ve been working a little bit on my skyhook. You know, [the] Kareem skyhook,” said Wembanyama. “And hopefully someday that can be a weapon to add [to my game].”

The skyhook is when an offensive player puts their shoulder into the defender (or simply in the direction of the defender) and shoots the ball with the opposite hand. It allows them to shoot it without the risk of the shot being blocked or deflected.

At his height and with his 8-foot wingspan, if Wembanyama can perfect the skyhook, it could be unstoppable.
